Aftercare

a good tattoo deserves good healing. how you care for your tattoo over the next few weeks plays an important role in how it looks once healed.

please follow these instructions to keep your tattoo clean, protected, and healing properly.

01 / the first 24 hours

  • leave your initial bandage on for the amount of time instructed at your appointment. removal times depend on the type of bandage used.
  • always wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
  • after removing the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap.
  • pat dry with a clean paper towel. avoid rubbing or scrubbing.
  • allow the area to dry before applying a very thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer, if recommended.

02 / the healing process

days 1–3 / keep it clean

gently wash your tattoo once or twice daily, or as directed. keep the area clean and avoid unnecessary touching. mild redness, tenderness, and some clear fluid or ink residue can be normal initially.

days 4–14 / let it heal

your tattoo may begin to peel, flake, or itch. this is a normal part of healing.

  • do not scratch, pick, or peel the skin.
  • apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer as needed.
  • avoid tight clothing or anything that causes excessive friction.
  • avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, baths, and soaking your tattoo.
  • avoid direct sunlight and tanning.

weeks 2–4 / be patient

the surface of your tattoo may appear healed before the deeper layers of skin have fully recovered.

continue gentle cleansing and moisturizing until the skin has healed. avoid swimming, soaking, and activities that irritate the area until healing is complete.

03 / things to avoid

  • scratching or picking at scabs
  • direct sun exposure or tanning
  • swimming, hot tubs, and soaking
  • heavily fragranced skincare products
  • excessive friction, sweating, or activities that irritate the tattoo
  • applying thick layers of ointment or moisturizer

04 / long-term care

once your tattoo has fully healed, protect it from sun exposure with broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen.

regular moisturizing and sun protection can help preserve the appearance of your tattoo over time. every tattoo heals differently. follow the specific aftercare instructions provided at your appointment, particularly if a specialized bandage or second-skin dressing was used.

thank you for trusting me with your skin.
